Hi, and Happy New Year 2013 to you. Make those resolutions, it's good to try new things and give ourselves goals. I include ones that are definitely reachable, and a few "dream goals" that inspire me to go beyond what I think I can accomplish. I've noticed that sometimes those "dream goals" happen years later, after I forgot I even made them!

The "hey, you never know" principle, I guess.

Lori

I Live In New Jersey - Hurricane Sandy Update

I live in New Jersey, and we were hit very hard by hurricane Sanday. I'm in the northwestern part of the state, where there are lots of trees. Many went down in the storm, and power is out all over the place. 3 trees about 80 - 100 feet tall went down in my yard and hit a few cars, uprooted a small garage, and took out the neighbor's play house. Thank God no one got hit.

People are really edged out about gasoline, mainly for use to run their generators if they have one. Many people are sharing their generator's power - my neighbors Karl, Dianna and their son Chris ran 3 houses with their generator, including ours. This keeps the fridge on. I had bought a gas camp stove the day before the hurricane hit, so was able to cook outside on two burners. The temperature was at first o.k., now it is very cold at night (in the 30's).

So...the situation as of November 2 around here is this: some people have gotten their power back, and others have not (we got our power back yesterday). JCP&L is working round the clock, but the need is very great. People who are on generators need the gas to run them, and there are long lines at the stations. You see gas trucks with police escorts. People get more frazzled with every passing day.

Those with power are opening their homes to those without power, sharing their electric thru extension chords, sharing meals, making hot showers available, and opening sleeper sofas for people to be able to sleep in a warm place. Concurrently, the roads are tense and the stores are crowded. Conversations abound between strangers, kind of "what's your story?" kind of thing. I met a man who walked to town from 25 miles away to buy a bicycle so he could get places. He lives in a basement room alone and got sick of being hungry and looking at a candle by himself. He was more than happy to talk about his life, and the tent he and a few guys were pitching that night in the back of town by the town's septic system, as out of the cold as they could get. He believes God is has helped him in his life, but that this is only the beginning, and that more hardships like this one are on the way. I told him I'm glad he knows God, and he was glad I knew him too. Links.

Some friends of my son slept over last night, happy to be out of the cold. More are staying tonight. I'm cooking alot to feed whoever might be staying over. My home is open to neighbors and friends who need a place - and there are many. So there is alot to do.

We hear Staten Island stories, which seem the worst to us. Fast flood waters, people ripped out to sea. They got hit like hurricane Katrina. They are suffering greatly, and don't see help fast enough. This reminds me of Katrina, and so I ask everyone to pray that help get there soon. The problems and deaths are not all in yet - please pray for all those affected by this storm. Thank you.

Lori Malvey - November 2, 2012

MAY NEWS

Hi Fans, one and all!

Busy times. Trying lots of new things musically and taking some new paths along this winding road. Specifically:

- Presently compiling all the Rich Piszker/Lori Malvey songs into a CD (from our collection of iTunes 2 EPs, our singles, and some new material). The music will come out through CD Baby, so if there is some music "missing" from iTunes, it's because we are transitioning over through this new CD. Once it's out, it will be out for good. If you need any music and can't find it, please email me & I'll send it to you).

- Working with Mark Salamone on some songs for licensing. This is a new experience and the one song in particular, "My Heart Is Always Breaking" is sounding exceptional. Looking forward to the journey this little song takes...

- Writing more songs with different style elements. Enjoying every minute of it. Presently using an 88-key controller so back to mucho piano--love it.

I guess that's it, so one day at a time in order to keep it together...and keeping it together is a noble thing

Lori
